Love in Human Herts: Selected Poems of Vagaland

£10.00

Thomas Alexander Robertson, who wrote under the pen-name Vagaland, is one of Shetland’s best-loved poets. In both English and Shetland dialect, his poetry celebrates traditional ways of life that few people today have experienced. Vagaland cared deeply about ‘da aald true wyes’, and his writing is a reminder that there is inevitably something lost when we rush headlong towards the new.

Vagaland’s poetry also shines with his reverence for the natural world. With great tenderness, he offers the reader intimate access to the flowers, animals, birds, sunsets and storms of his native isles. T.A. Robertson was devoted to Shetland, and his verse represents a lifetime of creative engagement with the world he found there.

Last published in book form in 1975, Robertson’s poetry has become increasingly unavailable. Love in Human Herts, a new selection of his work, contains thirty of Vagaland’s greatest poems and a glossary.
