Folklore from Whalsay and Shetland
By 1950 the Shetland scholar John Stewart met James Hamilton Delargy, the great Irish folklorist. Delargy persuaded Stewart to write down his vast knowledge of Shetland lore, and he took up the task with alacrity. During the rest of his life Stewart jotted down notes on the subject. Published here for the first time, John Stewart's folklore collections, from his native island of Whalsay, and from Shetland as a whole, are a valuable contribution to local studies.
