Uradale Farm grows lamb, beef and wool from our native sheep and cattle. Converting to Organic production in 2001 led to us taking a fresh view of what we do. We cast our eyes to the past for answers to some of today’s questions. Uradale now specialises in only native Shetland breeds and their special assets. Uradale Yarn was the logical next step for our Organic Native Shetland wool.
Our yarn is Organically scoured, spun and dyed here in the UK. The wool is slow spun on a restored spinning mule from the 1890s. Our yarn remains unbleached throughout the process, which means that the natural colours truly reflect the colours of our flock, and that more of the natural lanolin is kept. All ‘non-sheepy’ colours are Organically dyed to reflect the flowers and mosses of Uradale Farm. Occasionally a new range of shades is produced to add to this palette.
Our Organic spinner supplies first clip, jumper weight, double knit, aran and chunky weight yarns.
Produced especially to celebrate Shetland Wool Week 2020, we have also created the Heather Blossom shawl and cowl, with a special offer available during the Makers Market when purchasing both kits together.
